The St. James Board of Education recognized new teachers to the district and discussed back-to-school events at its meeting Aug. 19.
New teachers were noted during recognitions, as well as two Spark Awards from the district.
The awards will be given to 'Ty' and 'Chuck' who both stopped on I-44 to give assistance at the accident scene Aug. 5. The men did not wish to provide their last names.
Back-to-school reports were given. Principal Kim Shockely noted 96 percent of parents attended the open house for the elementary school. The school has an enrollment of 807.
Principal Kaaren Lepper said the middle school had an enrollment of 370 and 60 percent of students had a family member attend the open house.
Assistant Principal Phil West said the high school had 287 attend open house and an enrollment of 483. The average daily attendance is 94 percent.
