After discussing the merits of relocating the county’s Road and Bridge Department to a more rural location, the Phelps County Commission approved Tuesday soliciting for an appraiser to ascertain the present value of the Rolla site.

Located at 204 Fairgrounds Road near Kingshighway, the commissioners agreed the present location of the maintenance department was less than ideal.

Increased fuel consumption during high-volume traffic on Kingshighway presents problems during rush hour, commissioners said.

Appraisal of the property is necessary to determine whether the county would find the move to be a financially sound decision, commissioners said.

Commissioners agreed they would review the bids for appraisal services on Sept. 21.
