Absentee ballots for the April 6 General Municipal Election are available for registered Phelps County voters.

County Clerk Carol Bennett said absentee ballots may be obtained at her office in the courthouse.
The deadline to vote absentee in the County Clerk’s Office is 5 p.m. Monday, April 5.

According to Bennett, no ballots may be sent or mailed out of the Clerk’s Office after 5 p.m.

Wednesday, March 31, unless a voter is hospitalized after the deadline, in accordance with election laws.

If a voter is hospitalized after the deadline, a deputized absentee team could deliver a ballot to the hospital. Applications may be completed only by the voter or by the voter’s next of kin, Bennett said.

The County Clerk’s Office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 3, for absentee balloting.

Legal reasons for voting by absentee ballot include absence on election day; incapacity or confinement because of illness or physical disability, including caring for a person who is incapacitated or confined because of illness or disability; religious belief or practice; employment as an election authority at a location other than a voter’s polling place; incarceration, provided all qualifications for voting are retained.

Bennett said for absentee ballots to be counted, they must be received no later than 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, in the County Clerk’s Office at 200 N. Main St. in Rolla. Ballots may only be returned by the voter in person or by mail.

The deadline to register to vote in the April 6 Election is 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, Bennett said.

“If you will be 18 years of age on or before April 6, you must register to vote by March 10 at 5 p.m.,” Bennett said.
