Just another item for St. James' jammed full plate for September.
The 60th annual Missouri Photo Workshop of the Missouri School of Journalism will be held Sept. 21-27 in St. James.
"We are estatic over being selected to host the 60th Anniversary of the Missouri Photo Workshop in St. James,” said Mayor Dennis Wilson.
This event attracts photographers from around the country, and some from foreign countries, to sharpen their photojournalism skills. Each photographer must come up with a story to photograph in the community. Each day's work is then critiqued by a panel of professionals.
At the end of the week, citizens of the community are invited to an exhibit of photographs taken by each of the 40 participants.
"This is just another great fall season activity, along with the Grape & Fall Festival, Tour of Missouri Bicycle Race and Old Iron Works Days, to showcase our community state-wide as well as nationally and world-wide,” said Wilson.
David Rees and Jim Curley of the School of Journalism in Columbia are co-directors of the workshop.
An application form for the workshop and photo stories from previous workshops can be found at mophotoworkshop.org. A number of scholarships are available to help cover the $600 fee. The application deadline is July 15.
