Please plan on joining our family of donors at the American Red Cross blood drive on Monday, May 12th, at the United Methodist Church, from 1:00-6:00 PM. Blood donations are needed every second of every day. Many dedicated donors give as often as possible. When they are unable to give because of illness, low iron, or medication, this is upsetting to them. Most of the time they can return in two months and be eligible to donate. Other times, they may need to wait a long period of time.
In January of 2003, Don Poskin required surgery that would prevent him from donating blood for five years. His first experience donating blood was in the military in 1947. The incentive to donate blood was a three day pass, but it didn’t take him long to realize the importance of giving the Gift of Life. In January Don was very pleased, and we were too, to welcome him back. Don stated, “It never bothered me to donate blood, it was an easy thing to do, and I hope that more people will find it in their hearts to donate blood, and save as many as three lives.”
St. John’s Lutheran Church will provide sandwiches for this blood drive; complimentary coupons will be given from Pizza Hut and Subway, plus a limited edition Rock and Roll T-shirt and a chance to win a platinum record donated by Lynyrd Skynyrd. If you have questions related to donating blood, please call 1-800-GIVE LIFE.
