The St. James School District was recently awarded the Missouri Department of Secondary and Elementary Education’s Distinction in Performance honor.
Three St. James residents were recently honored for their grades at the University of Central Missouri. Ely Wright, Tyler Cash and Macey Hayes all had grade point averages at UCM between 3.5 and 3.99. UCM is located in Warrensburg, Mo.

Stephanie Elizabeth Birkner, of St. James, graduated Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Science Technology and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business & Management Systems, Summa Cum Laude, from Missouri University of Science & Technology, Rolla. She was a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
A tenor at John F. Hodge High School in St. James was recently selected as a member of the Missouri All-State Choir.
“It is a huge honor,” said Josh Ortiz, a high school senior. “I worked hard to get here and am really proud.”
The South Central Missouri Literacy Council and Rolla Adult Education and Literacy will be hosting a volunteer tutor training at the Missouri Career Center, 1202 Forum Drive, Rolla, Missouri, on Jan. 18, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The 2011 John F. Hodge High School homecoming parade will start at 2:40 Sept. 23 at the high school's football field. The parade will be coming up Scioto Street, and then turning right onto Highway 68.
It will then take a right at the old Simply Irresistible building, take a right at the next street and head back up to the school.
So far, groups participating include the band, football team, cheerleaders, Art Club, the powder-puff football winners and homecoming attendants and candidates.

For now, St. James residents won’t have to pay a higher tax levy to go toward the St. James School District.

On Aug. 31, Linn State Technical College will begin a year-long celebration of the college’s 50th anniversary with a Founders Day ceremony.
After two summers and one entire school year, students, parents, community members, staff and administrators Aug. 14 were finally able to celebrate the dedication of the vast improvements to Lucy Wortham James Elementary School.
Since June 30, the renovation project at Lucy Wortham James Elementary has been declared complete.

Storytime is back at the James Memorial library every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m.
Beginning Sept. 6, storytime will work with the University of Missouri Extension Family Nutrition Education Program.
The two groups will join together to bring a program called "Let's read about Healthy Eating." The program will have pre-k material that will include crafts, food, activities, movies and books.

Truman State University student Sarah Naji, of St. James, has been awarded a scholarship in the amount of $500 from the Truman State University Foundation for 2011-2012.
St. James residents Mary Beth Hagenhott and Brandon Sturdivant both recently earned a spot Linn State Technical College’s Spring Dean’s List.
