Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan announced a grant of $45,134 to Phelps County Clerk Carol Bennett to support efforts to ensure fair, accurate and secure elections.
Phelps County is eligible to receive up to $46,134 throughout the 2010 election cycle. The funds will help ensure Phelps County voter lists remain up to date and improve the efficiency of elections through well-trained poll workers and up-to-date technology.
“Missouri’s local elections officials do a great job providing quality customer service to every voter, and I am pleased to help provide the support and resources they need to do their jobs,” Carnahan said. “My office will continue to work with local elections officials to ensure confidence and convenience for Phelps County voters on Election Day.”
“This additional funding will help Phelps County to update needed equipment, as well as provide additional election worker training and assistant in voter roll maintenance costs,” Bennett said. “We are very fortunate to have the assistance of Robin Carnahan and her staff in assuring that these grant funds are available for the counties in Missouri.”
Carnahan’s office is making over $7 million available to local governments across Missouri for the 2010 elections. Local election authorities may qualify for grants based on the number of registered voters and the number of polling places in that county or jurisdiction.
