The Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) met with representatives of federal legislators in an effort to finalize its legislative platform Jan. 14.
Dan Engemann, deputy district director to Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, Katy Disinger, staff of Sen. Claire McCaskill and Darren Lingle of Rep. Jo Ann Emerson's office, were present for the discussion.
Disinger said Rep. McCaskill's office is busy with casework for individuals on topics such as medical needs and veterans' benefits.
Lingle noted Rep. Emerson's office was seeing trends in businesses bringing back workforce from overseas.
Lingle said casework for Rep. Emerson's office includes topics such as social security, natural parks and forests and veterans' benefits.
Engemann noted Rep. Luetkemeyer had made an effort to assist small businesses.
“We can take some steps to make it a little more workable for folks,” Engemann said. “We are there to help you gain access to your government.”
During the external relations committee report, Russell Scheulen reviewed the 2010 list of federal priorities, which the board approved.
The board approved MRPC/MRDC-RLF and IRP financials for the period ending Dec. 31, 2009 and audit in the operations committee report.
The board then approved updates to the budget for the MRPC 2010 fiscal year from Linda Loughridge.
Budget revisions since June included increased total agency revenue by $215,963, an overall salary increase of $46,000, fringe decreased by $5,000, two job descriptions and new programs and projects added, according to Loughridge's presentation. Total agency revenue over expenses was $55,598.
John Peterson reviewed federal priorities and hazard mitigation plans for the planning committee.
Chairman Laura Antolak discussed the importance of board members attending the strategic planning session Jan. 16.
During the MRB meeting the financials, budget and audit report were approved.
