St. James Mayor Dennis I. Wilson signed a document on Wednesday, May 7 proclaiming the week of May 11-17, 2008 as National Nursing Home Week in St. James. The proclamation was signed at Golden LivingCenter-St. James and attended by staff from GLCSJ and the Missouri Veteran's Home in St. James.
National Nursing Home Week is held each year in May starting on Mother's Day. The designated week is a time to recognize the important work done in nursing facilities of all types throughout the country. It is also a special opportunity to honor those citizens who live in the nation's nursing facilities who represent many facets of local history and heritage, and are themselves, a bit of living history. Each year, facilities plan special activities during the week to celebrate.
This year, GLCSJ has a number of events and special theme days planned for the week. Events include special entertainment, a barbecue and a trip to Camp Brim Shire for a picnic lunch and fishing. On Wednesday, May 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Missouri Veteran's Home is hosting a local Health Fair which will feature health screenings and information booths from area providers.
The public is encouraged to visit GLCSJ and Missouri Veteran's Home during this special week and experience the many positive things that are happening in the two facilities that serve St. James.
