Myra Ortball's recent decision to resign her position as Director of the Tourist Information Center was met with mixed emotions by City Hall. Myra's exceptional performance in the position of first-line ambassador to visitors to our community was, in deed commendable. While a search for her successor is currently underway, it will be no easy task to replace Myra. That is the negative emotion to her departure; the positive emotion is seeing her return to college to earn an elementary teaching certificate. A loss to our city, a gain for whatever school district ends up with her on staff. Myra, we wish you the best of luck in your new endeavor.
The "Dinner on the Greens", sponsored by the Tourist Information Center, scheduled for Friday, April 25, 2008 is being canceled and will be rescheduled.
Those individuals who already purchased tickets will be notified and refunds issued. For more information, contact the city Clerks office at 265-7013.
The week of April 28-May 2, 2008 has been proclaimed Juror Appreciation Week by the judges of the 25th Circuit Court, which includes St. James and Phelps County. Mary W. Sheffield, Presiding Judge of the 25th Judicial Circuit Court has asked that all citizens take time from their daily lives to honor those called upon to serve as jurors in our court systems. Serving as a juror fulfills the highest responsibility of citizenship and contributes to making our system of justice a reality. This week also provides an opportunity to say thanks to all employers who support the jury system by paying their employees for jury service. A proclamation proclaiming Juror Appreciation Week is on display in the City Hall.
