The second week has wrapped up, and things are starting to stir. The House sessions have been relatively brief again this week since bills have not yet come out of committee to be debated on the House floor.
Ticket sales for the St. James Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony are brisk, as RSVPs are needed by Thursday, Jan. 19 for the dinner. Attendees do not have to be a member of the Chamber to attend. Tickets may be purchased at the St. James Tourist Center at a cost of $30 each. RSPVs can also be called into the Tourist Center at 265-6649.
Not too long ago, I was leaving my office at about 11:30 p.m.
The transition of authority in the office of St. James’ city clerk, brought on by the retirement of longtime City Clerk Marilyn, went off without a hitch last week. Sarah Wheeler, our new city clerk, presided at last week’s meeting of our City Council on Tuesday, her first day in office. If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Sarah, I encourage all residents to stop by and welcome her to our community.
Taxes are generally my mortal enemy. I don’t like paying them. Not one bit.
But sometimes taxes and bond issues are a necessity.
The 70-degree weather last week had me pining for spring and snow all at the same time. The warmth made me wish I could break out a sundress, while the snow made me homesick for New England.
Sometime during the first week of August, construction work at Lucy Wortham James Elementary School should be completely finished.
