People have been asking me if I'm nervous about getting married. My answer is the same to everyone - no. If I was nervous about getting married, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be.
In a little over two weeks, on May 20, I will be getting married to my best friend in Yosemite National Park in California. We chose this for a variety of reasons. First, my mom's ashes are spread there and it's almost as if she can be a part of the ceremony. Second, planning a big wedding is hard work, and very stressful. As we were planning the wedding kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger. We aren't people who particularly enjoy being in the spotlight, and finally decided enough was enough.
I grew up in California, near Yosemite. As far back as I can remember I have thought about getting married there. After having moved away, I never thought it was a real possibility.
We are taking a few of our closest friends and family members to California with us where we will get married in Yosemite Valley in a small ceremony.
Following our wedding, we will be taking some time away from it all, just with each other, driving down the California coast. From San Francisco, to Monterey Bay, to Pasa Robles (lesser known wine country), to Las Angeles, to San Diego, and many more stops in between, we will be getting away from it all.
When we come back we will be having a reception here in St. James for all of our friends and family.
Don't worry! The paper will keep going without me. The great staff at Rolla Daily News is taking over for a couple of weeks. They will be doing it all in my absence, so please give them a warm welcome.
I will be gone starting May 16 all the way to June.
I'll see you when I get back, as Mrs. Stryker.
