St. James, Mo. -

Dear Editor,

We are writing in regards to the article in last weeks paper about the school district and the bond issue. We have a daughter in kindegarten in St. James School district, and we were angered and saddened by the comments of Mr. VanDick. We understand that the security at the school is lacking, but he did not have to sit there for 3 hours taking pictures of innocent children. By the way, what has happened to those pictures? We are not accusing this man of doing anything untoward to our child, but why did he have to take pictures? We are mostly angry with the school for allowing this man to sit out there for so long unnoticed. How come no one in the school was paying attention to what was going on outside? As was said in the article, there were at least 50 children unsupervised, outside, that any one of them could have been gone in a second. You all pushed the Watch D.O.G.S. program, which is a good idea, but where were they on this day? Mr. VanDick got his point across to at least this family. We agree the bond should be passed and the building enclosed. But, it just seems the security is lacking regardless.
