St. James, Mo. -

Dear Editor,

Something that hurt the bond issue was the property tax evaluation this year. We are retired and on a fixed income. Our real estate tax doubled this year on a 35 year old home. (Where have these taxes gone?) On top of this we have higher electric, natural gas, sewer, water, trash and fuel costs, auto and home insurance keep rising also.
This has nothing to do with people caring or not about the children of St. James. What does the school district want, Blood!
People like us are bleeding financially already. The retired people in this town are hurting too. Who cares about them?

P.S. The tornado in '06 hurt a lot of people too. Insurance don't cover everything. It cost a bunch on top of our home-owners policy.
And the price of food keeps following the fuel price up and up. Self-preservation comes first in my book.
