Tiger wrestlers place fourth as team in 16-team tourney

The St. James High School wrestling team placed fourth in a 16-team field Jan. 23 at the McCluer South Tournament.

Fort Zumwalt South won the tourney team title while McCluer South was second, McCluer third, St. James fourth, John Burroughs fifth, Hazelwood East sixth, Trinity Catholic seventh, Sumner eight, Riverview Gardens ninth, Fort Zumwalt North 10th, Normandy 11th, Maplewood-Richmond Heights 12th, Affton 13th, Hancock 14th, Roosevelt 15th and Vashon 16th.

Senior Cory Rose captured another tournament championship for the Tigers.

Rose finished 4-0 to win the 135-pound weight class.

Also for the Tigers Payton Woolsey was second overall at 130 with a 2-1 record while Nick Declue was third at 119 with a 3-1 mark.

Placing fourth for St. James were Jason Walls (2-2) at 140 and Chase Dillon (2-2) at 160.

Also competing for the Tigers were Corey Busche (1-2) at 125, Jesse Wright (0-2) at 145, Ozzie Wright (1-2) at 171 and Cory Nowland (1-2) at 215. Grant Brooks also got an exhibition match and lost by two points.
