The St. James High School wrestling team placed fourth in the 11-team Owensville Tournament, held last Saturday.

St. Clair won the tournament with 335 points followed by Owensville second with 188.5 points, Herculaneum third with 162, St. James fourth with 149.5, Union fifth with 137, Sullivan sixth with 127, Park Hills Central seventh with 125.5, Fatima eighth with 111.5, Brentwood ninth with 109.5, MMA 10th with 102 and New Bloomfield 11th with 48.

Senior Cory Rose won the tournament title in the 135-pound weight class for St. James, finishing with a 5-0 record.

Also for the Tigers Payton Woolsey was second (4-1) at 130 and Corey Busche was second (4-1) at 125.

Other finishers for St. James included Jason Walls third (4-1) at 140; Nick Declue fourth (3-2) at 119; Jesse Wright (2-3) at 145 and Cory Nowland (2-3) at 215 were both fifth, and Chase Dillon (2-3) at 160 and Ozzie Wright (1-4) at 171 were both seventh.

Double-Dual Win

The Tigers returned from the holiday break with a bang, sweeping a double-dual meet against New Bloomfield and Fatima on Thursday at the St. James High School old gym.

The Tigers defeated New Bloomfield 42-21 while clipping Fatima 36-33. In the other dual meet Fatima beat New Bloomfield 39-12. The meet had been scheduled for Jan. 7 but was backed up due to weather.

All three schools were open in several weight classes.

Contested wins for St. James against New Bloomfield came from Payton Woolsey in the 130-pound weight class and Cory Rose at 135. Both won by pin.

Against Fatima contested Tiger wins came from Nick Declue at 119 and Jesse Wright at 145. Both won by pin.
