Lady Tigers have tough opener

The St. James High School softball team had a tough season-opener on Monday, being crushed by Vienna 17-0 at Nelson Hart Park.

The game was stopped after three innings due to the run rule.

Vienna junior pitcher Kelcie Brunnert threw a three-inning no-hitter, walking two and fanning eight. The Lady Eagles outhit St. James 18-0.

Katlyn Meier was 4-for-4 with three stolen bases for Vienna while Abbie Roberds was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI while Shelby Combs and Shayla Snodgrass were both 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI; Brunnert was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI; Danielle Hayes was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Emma Schiermeier was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Senior Ashley Steen was the losing hurler.

Vienna also won the junior varsity game 18-0.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play again Thursday at Crocker (4:30 p.m.). Vienna is to host Salem on Friday.
