The St. James Industrial Development Authority (IDA) board heard a presentation on environmental assessments and clean ups at its meeting Aug. 16.

John Cable with Triangle Environmental gave the presentation, which included Brownfields redevelopment.

Director of Community Development Candace Connell noted Cable's presentation.

Connell said Cable discussed environmental testings, including a phase one and phase two environmental study in the Brownfields program through the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Some of the projects Cable has done included environmental contamination, Connell said.

The IDA approved a motion to recommend to city council that the city apply for the Brownfields redevelopment program with DNR.

Connell said the board identified five properties of interest. The motion required that the city and IDA speak with all property owners before a presentation to city council would be made in September or October.

All properties have either been a former gas station or automotive repair location, Connell said.
